Breaking the Cycles of Land Degradation: A case study from Ban Lak Sip, Laos

چکیده
farming practices in many regions are causing land resources to degrade—threatening future food security as well as the livelihoods of poor rural people. But, as new research has shown, tackling local problems requires an understanding of the policies and wider economic and social factors that influence farmers in their decision making processes to adopt inappropriate land use practices. A broad, multi-scale analysis of land degradation in one village in Laos has provided valuable lessons that could guide environmental policymaking elsewhere, helping to ensure that new policies do not have unintended consequences.

Investigation of pedological criterion on land degradation in quaternary rock units (case study: Rude-Shoor watershed area)
To investigate pedological criterion on land degradation in Quaternary rock units, at first, a part of the shoor watershed area was selected. After distinguishing target area, slope classes, land use and geology maps were created, then map of units were founded by overlaying and crossing these maps. In this research three indices of erodibility, salinity and permeability of soils were considere...

Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation and enhancing forest carbon stocks (REDD+) is a performance-based payment mechanism currently being debated in international and national environmental policy and planning forums. As the mechanism is based on conditionality, payments must reflect land stewards’ level of compliance with carbon-efficient management practices. However, l...
متن کاملEvaluation of land degradation trend using satellite imagery and climatic data (Case study: Fars province)
Introduction: Climate change and human activities have a direct impact on land vegetation. Decreased rainfall and increased temperature are among the climate change factors leading to significant changes in water resources and energy balance in affected areas. On the other hand, human activities such as growing population, overgrazing and land use changes that make change in land conditions, al...
